Tiny Device Is a ‘Huge Advance’ for Treatment of Severe Heart Failure
“A game changer,” is how STS member Dr. Mathew Williams of NYU Langone Health describes the latest MitraClip research. In the study, this device was used to repair the mitral valve by clipping its two flaps together in the middle. After the repair, the valve was able to regulate blood flow in and out of the heart. The procedure is less invasive than open heart surgery, creating new treatment possibilities for people with severe heart failure. “This will change how we treat #patients,” said Dr. Williams.
