STS member Dr. Len Girardi, of Weill Cornell Medicine, saved a patient’s life by replacing her entire aorta with a polyester version. According to Dr. Girardi, the patient’s prognosis is excellent. She’ll need to be checked with CT scans and echocardiograms, but her new aorta should last a lifetime.
