High-Tech Treatment for Esophageal Cancer
STS member Manu Sancheti, MD, used part of a patient’s own stomach to replace his cancer-ridden esophagus. Dr. Sancheti and his team at Emory University performed the lengthy and complex procedure using robotic technology.
Performing the surgery robotically means a shorter stay in the hospital, days not weeks. “Allowing them to get back to a normal lifestyle as soon as possible is really the best reward,” Dr. Sancheti said.
